The Adamsons
ps. There is a wonderful giveaway going on that both Laurel and Harmony are in. Check it out! www.covenantbuilders.blogspot.com There are some wonderful prizes, and it benefits orphans too! :)

LAUREL
Laurel has arthrogryposis — and look at that beautiful smile!

She’s already 15 years old, and has less than 6 months (from January 2012) to be adopted, or she loses all hope for a future.

Laurel is blessed to be in a very good older child orphanage for those with mostly physical disabilities. Her orphanage has been supported by many humanitarian aid groups, and offers child sponsorship programs and trips for these children. Laurel does face transfer to an adult mental institution SOON, and at 16 she will no longer legally be able to be adopted at all. We simply can not let this happen to her.

Our facilitation team has met Laurel…she is very smart and friendly, and she SO wants a family of her own. Laurel is in a region which often waives the 10 day waiting period!

HARMONY
Girl, Born July 1996

ABIhkhc–Down Syndrome, 15 years old, NEEDS HOME STUDY AND USICS I800A FILED BY JUNE 2012

I know in my heart that if anyone can help this beautiful 15 year old girl with Down syndrome find a family, it is the advocates at Reece’s Rainbow! If she is not adopted by July of 2012, she will no longer be eligible for adoption AT ALL. We need an experienced family with a completed or near complete home study, who has adopted older children with special needs internationally before.

Present Carer: Harmony is receiving secondary education at a middle school and has been residing at the school’s boarding section since 2002.

Present Development: Although Hamony is a girl with Down Syndrome and a number of medical problems, her medical issues had been subsided after receiving treatments and operations. Due to left severe hearing loss, right profound hearing loss, moderate hyperopia, astigmatism and nystagmus, Harmony has to wear hearing aids and spectacles in school. However, she does not put them on in the dorm and yet can do very well. She understands her worker’s instructions well and has no communication problems with her housemates. Harmony’s behavior and emotions are stable. She has acquired self care skills and managed to bathe independently, wash her hair, hang up and fold her clothes neatly. She also knows how to seek help from the social worker when her toys are seized or is pinched by other housemates. Her appetite is good. She eats well and does not spend a lot of time in eating.

Harmony loves learning and is attentive in class. She completes her homework voluntarily. She understands and recognizes different parts of the body. She also recognizes the name tag of her classmates and calls out their names. At present, she learns Chinese language by using reading cards and can pronounce two syllables. She is described as patient, helpful and playful. She loves music and plays the hand bell well. She usually imitates the behaviors of others, manages to string a bead and slides with a pair of roller blades. She can stay focused when playing with puzzles, play-dough and drawing with a pen. She also enjoys playing with younger children, such as chasing and hitting each other and dancing together. Being a helper of the social worker, she stops a classmate from hitting the other and prevents a social worker from falling down. She used to be very exciting towards peoples and was stubborn. When her want was declined, she threw a temper. Fortunately, she can control her emotions and follow instructions after being explained. When she has home leave at a social worker’s home during weekends, she follows the rules well and gets along well with the family members of the social worker.

•Full medical and social info available
•EASY travel (both parents for 4-7 days)
•Relatively low cost
•No more than 5 children at home
•Married couples only

A Mama's yearning for her children

This is Heidi our mininubian doe. THe last 2 days Heidi has been distraught. Every few minutes she lets out an urgent, desperate "MAAAA!" She is calling for her newborn kids. She has escaped her pen many times in the last two days and gone searching.... in the other goat pens, in the woods, and in the stall where she gave birth just 2 days ago.

You see, her twin bucklings who were born two days ago died shortly after birth. The second born buckling was very very skinny and weak and could hardly hold his head up and despite our efforts to warm him and get colostrum into him, he became unresponsive about 40 minutes after birth. The first born was more sturdy...he seemed very healthy and even was starting to stand and nurse...but about 60 minutes after the birth he too suddenly became weak and unresponsive. Our kids were crushed...we did not expect that. Our doe had been struggling with something the last 2 weeks of her pregnancy and the vet had us treat her for pregnancy toxemia (which can be fatal)--basically she was not able to consume enough nutrients for the babies so her own fat was being used and releasing harmful substances making her toxic, and making her stop eating her usual grain. So we worried that the mommy and her babies could die...when they were born alive we were elated, and then crushed when they died in our arms. It was an amazing privaledge to see these creatures of God be born and they were so beautiful, soft and perfect.

The vet said it most likely was their hearts (possible from a selenium deficiency since the mom stopped eating) for them to die like that. My mommy's heart is aching for my children especially my oldest girls who assisted with the birth...they have studied about goat birthing and counted down the days for Heidi's birth and were so excited, and even made goat sweaters! I was so proud of them and I wish so much I could've saved the babies. My 2nd oldest wanted to keep them under the heat lamp that day--just in case God wanted to heal them (we all know He could if He wanted) Its so hard to see them sad and hurting. Our family had a funeral for the bucklings with Daddy officiating. Even though it still makes us sad to think about it, we know that they were in God's hands and aren't with us anymore.

But not Heidi... she still yearns for her babies. She received them like a good momma--licking off their goo from the birth and cleaning them over and over. At the time of their death she was still anxiously working on delivering the placenta so we removed them so they wouldn't get trampled on. Once the placenta did pass and she was done, she became preoccupied with finding them. I thought of bringing them out to her to smell and maybe "see" that they weren't alive, but I didn't know if it would help or not, or if it would make it harder. I wish I had though more experienced goat friends have told me that it didn't help their goat whose kid died and they continued to maa for them for a couple days to a week. It is absolutely heartbreaking to hear her desperate cries, calling for her newborns, for her babies. While it may be instinctual for a goat (as one person pointed out in effort to make me feel better) she nonetheless is beside herself and without peace because her babies are not with her.

I couldn't help but think about the orphans in the world. If all human mommies were as concerned for their babies...if they yearned for them and couldn't rest without them... there wouldn't be many orphans. I know some mommies and daddies die and leave orphans but I also saw so many children in the one orphanage we adopted from who were put there by healthy parents. I also thought about how Heidi's newborns were disabled...yet she wants them passionately. Our adopted kids and the disabled orphans on Reeces Rainbow (www.reecesrainbow.org ) as well as many that are not even known about to adopt were abandoned at the orphange because they were not "normal." I don't know how a mommy could leave their child, for certainly our maternal instincts are as strong. I know some feel they must put them there for a "better" life (due to finances and situations) but is it really? I wonder if those biological mothers are haunted by those maternal separation feelings.

Having been through adoptions and witnessed many other precious families adopt, I know that substitute adoptive mommies yearn for the children GOd has led them to adopt. The longer the adoption takes the more intense is the longing to see, hold and bring that child home. Isn't that beautiful? To think that these children, who are wishing so much for a mommy and daddy to come love them, already have mamas yearning for them and praying and using all their energies to raise the money needed to pay their ransom. A true mommy's heart, whether for her biological child or her adopted child, is a beautiful thing indeed, and reflects the love our Heavenly Father has for each of His children.

Baby Doelings!

Around 6:30 pm., Sunday night, 2 baby doelings were born to my goat Sunflower. They are so precious!! They both look like their mother :) The youngest and biggest looks alot like her mother in color, and her dad in looks, and the oldest and littlest looks alot like her mother but with alot more light brown in her. They are so adorable :)
It was so amazing to see a goat giving birth to 2 precious babies. Naomi, Daddy, Mommy and I got to help with the birth. She had a great birth, and didn't need any help.
The baby goats have been having some trouble nursing on their own...after we get them on the teat, they can nurse by themselves, but they can't get on by themselves. They seem to think that the teats are higher than they are. Please pray that eventually they will learn to start nursing by themselves :)
We decided to name them Sunshine and Sunbeam! Sunshine and Sunbeam have been enjoying playing outside with their mommy in her pen or in our yard. They love to jump and leap about, and explore with their mommy. They are so cute :)

Enjoy the pictures!
Love,
Haylee
ps. The pink baby goat sweater is hand knit by our Nana, and we made the light brown one by cutting the sleeves off a part wool sweater, then sewing it, and attaching little leg things. The babes don't wear them anymore since it is so warm!
But, the first couple days they wore them since it was cold.

A nice visit

A couple weeks ago, a wonderful christian family (the Rogers) who adopted 2 children from Eastern Europe came over to our house to visit and have dinner with us. We had met them before, and were following their adoption journey to bring 2 precious children home. We got the privilege to meet baby Claire and Malachi! They are so precious :) We had a wonderful visit with them, spending time with them and talking about our adoptions. I feel like I know Claire and Malachi already...they are so sweet! Their family has such a heart for orphans, and the children are already wanting to adopt again! :)
Their blog is here
Here are some pictures of our wonderful visit with them. Enjoy :)

Love,
Haylee

Please pray for friends in Henryville, Indiana

Our family lived in Indiana when we moved there for JOhn to attend the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. We ended up living in Indiana for about 5 years and had 3 babies there :), and have many memories there. Part of the time we lived there, we went to a church in Henryville, Indiana....the same town that was hit hard by tornados a couple of days ago. We've heard that the middle/highschool is wiped out as well as many houses. I've been looking up people on facebook that we've not been in touch with to see if they are okay....so far I found out that one family we knew had their home destroyed but they are okay and another 3 families we knew are okay though we don't know about the status of their homes. There are videos on Youtube of Henryville showing the damage and it is unbelievable. Please pray for the people there that God will be with them and provide the help needed to get their home and community back together.
