Day 3
Today we asked to play inside as we are tired of the heat and the bugs, and turns out they led us to just play in the area outside Lusa’s door…where there is a small couch in the hallway. It was okay but got hot after a while in there. They brought Lusa out wearing a cute red and white dress and socks…she finally looked like a girl (with her shaved head of course) As soon as she got back in the room to eat, they stripped her clothes off so she was in underwear like the rest of the groupa. She seemed to like the dress. We also had brought a pink dress and outfit to try on her…the dress was a little big up top and the one piece outfit was too little to snap so we will exchange them. We wanted to bring home something that fit her so we could compare to clothing at home so we'd know the right size to bring for the trip home.
Taras’ clothes we brought fit pretty well…at least for now. Taras seemed to like sitting up with help for a while—I don’t think he gets much of that given his bedsore on his back. He had a lot of mosquito bites today poor guy. He was in an army colored top and shorts which of course Jonah liked. Jonah did a great job playing with Lusa who has taken well to him. She seems to like to play. One thing Jonah did not like was chasing her around—she was determined to go down the hall and up the stairs. She’s not too interested in toys or books—just wants to go….sounds like our Sean. She and Jonah played with a little beach ball.
Before we left we watched both kids being fed. I was suprized that they spoon fed Lusa …even more surprised that she kept her hands down for the whole time until the very end when she spilled her tea (called chai). She had a chicken soup, then chai…they even spoon fed the tea to her! (when we’d seen Sean eat last year we were surprised also but the other way…they let him eat the soup all on his own and he stayed seated to do it.) Maybe that is why she was not interested in drinking the other days.
We also watched them feed Taras….we both cringed to see them bottle feed him while laying on his back in the stroller and we are amazed he hasn’t aspirated. He was fed soup in a bottle which he didn’t like; then a kasha (porridge with milk) which he liked and then chai which he spit out. We will probably mainly feed him oatmeal stuff like he likes or purees until we get a speech/feeding evaluation. After that, we ate lunch and came home.
We were very disappointed to see that a little girl we had inquired about—and were told was being adopted—was there today…we recognized her right away. We don’t know why she is there—maybe it is in the process of adoption or maybe we were told wrong, we don’t know but it makes us sad. She is a precious little girl and we hope that maybe the family is working on the adoption.
We also got to show some caregivers pictures of Sean—there were about 4 of them looking at his pictures and smiling and talking—obvious that they were so happy to see them. I'm glad that the caregivers seem to genuinely care about the kids--seems like they do for Lusa and Taras also.
